Executive Director
Organization Description
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of Missouri’s children. Citizen’s for Missouri’s Children (CMC) is seeking an executive director who will work with the Board to enhance the vision and goals for the organization for the foreseeable future. This is the chance to create a new level of a truly statewide advocacy organization built on a strong foundation of more than 25 years.
CMC is a nonprofit, non-partisan public interest organization that advocates for the rights and well-being of all Missouri’s children, especially those with the greatest need. Founded in1983, CMC is Missouri’s leading statewide children’s advocacy organization. For information about specific programs, please visit www.mokids.org.
Position Summary
Supervised by: Board of Directors
Supervises: Three full-time and three part-time staff. This number is expected to increase.
Travel: There is some statewide travel involved and some time must be spent in Jefferson City, particularly during the legislative session.
Primary Responsibilities

Assist the Board in assessing strategic options and setting the strategic direction of the organization to fully realize its mission.

Serve as liaison between the Board and the organization.

Maintain the mission-centered culture by professional example and through communication to the staff and the Board members. Nurture a collegial culture of teamwork and cooperation.
- Communicate with local, state, and national organizations to increase the presence, impact and visibility of CMC’s work. Serve on regional and statewide planning and coordinating bodies as appropriate.
- Serve as the organization’s primary ambassador and spokesperson across the state and in professional communities and as the primary media spokesperson as appropriate.
Encourage collaborative, cooperative relationships and partnerships with appropriate professional and community organizations and individuals throughout the state.
- Oversee and participate in fundraising.

Direct the organization’s fiscal management, including timely reporting to Board.

Formulate and advance organization’s public policy positions in conjunction with the Public Policy Committee and Board.

Be responsible for the hiring and oversight of the staff in St. Louis and elsewhere.
Primary skills, education and experience
-
Dedication and vision for the mission, for advocacy, for children and families.

Demonstrated skills in organizational planning and goal setting for an advocacy organization, preferably one that is statewide.

Creative, flexible and open to a variety of ways of providing advocacy services.

Understanding of and appreciation for the political process, advocacy and policy work.

Knowledge of children’s issues preferred.

Demonstrated willingness and ability to do fundraising.

Undergraduate degree or substantial experience at the executive level required. Graduate degree preferred.

Minimum of five years experience in a successful advocacy, public policy or relevant nonprofit organization.
