Cultural Leadership

Program Director

                                                                                                   

Reports to:  Executive Director      

Hours:    40-50 Hours per Week (evenings, weekends as needed/scheduled)                    

Salary Range:      $40,000 - $50,000

 

Position Summary

The Program Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of ongoing programs for Cultural Leadership, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling program activities.

This position requires an energetic, flexible, experienced professional with a very strong personal commitment to the mission and success of Cultural Leadership. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task, work productively with a wide array of personalities, relate well to students and adults, think creatively and strategically, and excel under pressure. The successful candidate will also commit to working a 40-50 hour work week, which includes three weekends of the year, several Sunday programs, a few evenings for committee meetings, and long days during an incredible 3-week-plus summer trip.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement all aspects of monthly student programs and retreats

  • Plan, coordinate and participate in all aspects of a 3-week-plus summer trip with students to  the East and throughout the South

  • Mentor and train students to give speeches and lead facilitation sessions and find audiences and groups for said presentations

  • Determine content for, edit, layout, manage printing process and publish tri-annual newsletter

  • Create and send bi-monthly webletter which includes managing database of webletter recipients

  • Work with Webmaster on website

  • Work with Recruitment Selection committee to select student participants which includes developing personal contacts at more than 100 schools and houses of worship and making presentations about the organization to schools, houses of worship, and civic organizations for recruiting and fundraising purposes. 

  • Work with public relations committee and volunteers to promote the visibility of the organization
  • Perform any and all activities required to grow and improve the organization

Requirements: 

  • college degree

  • strong personal commitment to the mission of Cultural Leadership; 

  • experience with teenagers

  • non-profit management experience; 

  • strong leadership and interpersonal skills; 

  • excellent written and oral communications skills;  

  • advanced computer and database literacy; 

  • ability to take initiative;  and

  • ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Personal characteristics

The Program Manager should demonstrate competence in all of the following:

  • Ethical Behavior: Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that his/her own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of Cultural Leadership

  • Building Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, the board of directors, indeed, all stakeholders both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of Cultural Leadership.

  • Communicating Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.

Background in Diversity, Anti-discrimination, Jewish studies and/or African-American studies a plus.  Minorities strongly encouraged to apply.
