Director, Volunteer Services

Position Summary

The Director, Volunteer Services is accountable for the development, management and maintenance of the volunteer development program including adult education, the adult volunteer record system, the alumni organization, adult awards, volunteer placement, and the resource center.

Fulltime, Exempt

Accountabilities

  1. Develops, manages and maintains volunteer personnel services, which includes the volunteer record system, and provides the support, supervision and materials needed to get the job done. 
  2. Develops, manages and maintains the adult education program. Ensures that the training needs of volunteers are met. Ensures that training modules are updated on a consistent basis and that trends are integrated into the curriculum on an as needed basis. Provides the support, supervision and materials needed to get the job done.
  3. Works in tandem with the Membership Department to secure mutually satisfactory placements for maximum retention of adult volunteers.
  4. Ability to track trends in volunteerism and plan for and provide the appropriate services. Serves as the staff expert on volunteerism.
  5. Ensures that the resource center is managed and maintained to best support the work of the volunteers.
  6. Develops and manages the council-wide alumni organization.
  7. Plans, implements and manages the adult awards system.
  8. Motivates staff and volunteers to meet council goals and supervises a staff of 5-8 subordinates.
  9. Support the organizational diversity and fund development goals of the council.
  10. Assists the CEO and/or COO through managing special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  1. Belief in the aims and purposes of Girl Scouting.
  2. Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated management and supervisory skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and control budgets.
  5. Excellent human relations, verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Knowledge of and at least 3 years experience in volunteerism and/or adult education.
