Gateway Area Chapter President - St. Louis, MO
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) is seeking a Chapter President for its Gateway Area Chapter. This position is responsible for providing leadership in all areas of chapter operations including fund development, client programs, community relations, financial management, board and staff development, and expanding collaboration with the two other MS chapter affiliates in Virginia.
Organization Background
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the oldest and largest nonprofit MS organization and the only voluntary health organization in the U.S. supporting international MS research. The Society supports more MS research and serves more people with MS than any other organization in the world. The Gateway Area Chapter funds local programs and services for people with MS and their families in our region, and supports the Society’s research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. The Chapter serves over 5,700 people with MS and provides additional support and services to their families, caregivers and healthcare providers. The Chapter has a $5.4 million annual budget and serves 90 counties in the Eastern half of Missouri and in Southern Illinois. Headquarters are located in St. Louis. There are 36 professionals on staff and 25 members of the Board of Trustees. Performance Criteria
We are seeking a successful leader to inspire staff, board, and volunteers in support of our mission of ending the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. Key performance outcomes expected of our chapter president include:

Drive revenue growth for the Chapter’s core special events and develop and implement strategies resulting in significant growth in individual and corporate donations;

Build and sustain effective relationships with all constituents and enhance awareness of the Society’s mission throughout the Chapter territory;

Develop a strong relationship with the Board of Trustees, effectively engaging individual members and partnering with the board to attract new members;

Maintain the current sense of teamwork and foster a positive working environment in the chapter that will motivate staff to higher levels of quality and efficiency;

Increase and strengthen volunteer participation in all chapter programs and events;

Provide quality delivery of programs, increase services and outreach to people with MS, and be a leader in advocating for people with MS at the state and local level;

Participate actively in National Society initiatives and ensure that chapter operations are consistent with the NMSS Strategic Response and standards of excellence.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will share our passion for serving people with disabilities and will demonstrate the following experiences, skills, and personal attributes:
- Significant successful leadership experience with a history of job growth and advancement;
- Previous experience in leading collaborative efforts within or between organizations. Change management experience very beneficial;
- A successful track record in building high performing staff teams and creating positive working environments;
- Successful experience in marketing and managing large-scale, special events;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective partnerships with diverse constituencies and organizations;
- Demonstrated ability in securing gifts and contributions from individuals and corporations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Financial management experience, including developing and managing budgets, understanding financial statements, and a proven ability to meet financial goals;
- Knowledge of the local and regional area served by the chapter preferred.
- Prior experience working with nonprofit organizations, preferably a national health or human services agency.
