About Us
Since 1888, The Youth and Family Center (YFC) carries forward a strong history of providing children and families with programs and services developed in response to the distinct needs of its surrounding communities. Our mission is to help youth, families and older adults attain fulfilling lives by providing innovative social, educational and recreational resources and to serve as an anchor for the near north side of St. Louis. We partner with other organizations to provide comprehensive educational support programs, job and vocational training, arts programs, sports activities, health and wellness programs, day and after school care, activities for seniors, computer and technology training, and financial planning. Our facility is located in historic St. Louis Park Place.
About the Position
We have an exciting vision to become a vibrant “hub” for social service, education and recreational programs with a state of the art facility within revitalized neighborhoods of St. Louis. This position offers the right person an opportunity to be the leader in helping to achieve this vision. YFC’s strength in innovative program design, coupled with its talented and committed staff and Board, will provide the Executive Director with a strong foundation to lead the organization’s growth and success in achieving its mission, vision and strategic plan.
General Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership - Report to the Board of Directors and enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions, ensure that the organization develops a long-range strategy and capacity building initiatives, and give direction to the staff in executing the Center’s mission, capacity building initiatives, and strategic plan.

Fundraising – Strive to secure the financial resources necessary to accomplish the mission and goals of the Center. Plan and implement fundraising activities including determining resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administering fundraising records. Establish and build both individual and corporate benefactor relations.

Community Relations – Promote our mission and programs in a passionate, positive manner to clients, the larger community and the media. Cultivate community support from individuals, organizations, foundations and government agencies.

Management – Direct the full lifecycle of staff and volunteer development including recruitment, hiring, training, managing, coaching and terminating when appropriate. Create a climate that attracts, maintains and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

Partner to the Board – Serve as an effective team leader working between the Board and staff. Support the administration of the Board, openly advising the Board members on internal and external issues affecting the Center.

Program Development & Delivery – Provide leadership in the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services offered by the Center. Develop program criteria and measurable outcomes in alignment with the Center’s mission.

Fiscal Oversight – Prepare an annual budget for Board approval and manage the Center’s resources within this budget according to the laws and regulations for not-for-profit organizations. Initiate and implement financial and strategic planning to provide for a sustainable organization, assure the timely preparation of accurate periodic financial statements and provide the Board with financial data when requested.

Facilities Management – Our facility is older and needs ongoing care. Ensure all areas within the facility are safe and in good working condition. Make proactive recommendations for both infrastructure and aesthetic improvements. Provide oversight for the maintenance of information technology systems and equipment.

Client Care and Service - Is the heart of our organization. The Executive Director must believe in the Center’s mission and that quality client service is of top priority. Respect for the clients, employees, Board members, and all other constituents, coupled with professional and ethical behavior is expected at all times.
Qualifications Include
-
At least 5 years experience in senior executive management capacity, preferably with a not-for-profit organization, including financial and budget oversight. Experience serving children, family and older adults is attractive.

Strong management skills with a successful track record in attracting and retaining top talent and building a solid team.

Experience and a successful track record in fundraising. Familiarity and established relationship with local (STL), regional (Midwest) and national funding sources is highly desirable.

Experience with financial oversight and budget responsibility is mandatory.

Familiarity with the operations of a not-for-profit organization and the rules and regulations regarding the operations of a 501c3.

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred and an advanced degree is highly desirable.

Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Must be a person whose personal values are compatible with the Center’s mission. Must be able to relate with the Center’s clients and the surrounding community.

Developing sound strategy as well as implementation is essential.

Must be an accomplished self-starter who is comfortable accepting responsibility for successfully achieving personal, group and organization objectives.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

Excellent personal organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and direct the flow of multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

Excellent communication skills, unquestionable character and background, and a real command presence are mandatory.

Must like working with people in collaboration, and having a hands-on approach to creating success.
